Don’t you think that the world would be a really dull place without flowers? And I hope you agree that through hard times, flowers bring us joy. Sadly cut flowers fade, and we aren’t all lucky enough to have a garden. Every one of my hand felted flower corsages however stays bright and cheerful.
I started by making simple beaded flowers (now available as a kit so you can make you own), but now I want to make more realistic ones. These are the results so far.
I love adding a flower to a coat or jacket, and they bring a special something to a hat for an occasion. They also look great on a bag or that basket you take to the farmers’ market. When it’s cooler they are so stylish on a scarf.
To make my flower corsages I first felt each leaf and petal individually. I then combine those using traditional felting techniques that date back to the Bronze Age, with a few contemporary twists. I make a felt ball for each centre and stitch it in place, and use complementary artificial floristry stamens to bring them to life. Finally I attach a dual crocodile and brooch bar clip to the back.
Every one of my hand felted flower corsages is unique- even when I make a repeat colour. The photos for this item are taken with the flowers held in my hand so you can hopefully get an accurate idea of their sizes.
